Last night while crews were standing by for a fireworks display in cumru township a structure fire was dispatched on east grill ave. Crews immediately loaded up and were on the road before the assignment was dispatched. Rescue Engine 72 responded with driver and 2 while the duty officer (Vince Bruno) arrived on location and confirmed a working fire. The rescue engine arrived first on scene and FF.Koehn pulled the first 1” 3/4 hand line to the residence backed up by FF. Lonaberger. While inside crews found a heavy fire load in the loft of the garage. Soon after, a 42 officer requested the second alarm assignment. Ladder 64 went to the roof to start opening up but due to the roof being compromised they were quickly forced off. This is the first time in nearly 30 years that the West Reading Fire Department and the Brecknock Township Fire Department were first on scene together for a working fire. Great job to all agencies involved!
